Jana has served as the Upward Bound Program Director at the University of Hawaiʻi Maui College for the past nine years, overseeing two Upward Bound Classic programs and one Upward Bound Math and Science program. Her programs primarily support students from historically underserved communities, including many Pacific Islander and Native Hawaiian students. Jana’s leadership centers on inclusive educational practices. She integrates place-based learning and community partnerships with problem-based STEM education, creating learning experiences that honor students’ identities while strengthening their academic preparation for college.
Jana is committed to building educational environments where all students—particularly those from marginalized or rural communities—have the opportunity, resources, and support needed to thrive in higher education and beyond.
